'The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence' Review

FINALLY

I know. I know. I’ve been absent for a really long time already, since October if I’m not mistaken, giving absolute no signs of life, you probably thought I was dead, you probably didn’t, either way, I want to say I’m sorry. I just needed some relaxing time after losing the already finished review, TWICE! That and by the time I decided to write again it was December already and holidays bring my inner laziness to the surface. But now, the third time, here we are, face to face (kind of), with me finally delivering: “THE ZODIAC LEGACY” review.

The Book

When twelve magical superpowers are unleashed on the world, a Chinese-American teenager named Steven will be thrown into the middle of an epic global chase. He'll have to master strange powers, outrun super-powered mercenaries, and unlock the mysterious powers of the Zodiac.

(Goodreads.com)

As I have stated on my October TBR from awhile back, it is a really good book, not at the point of coming to one of my favorites, but still. Given that I expected a not-so-great book from this but rather a desperate attempt from Disney to catch some attention on the literary world (that if they don’t have any already, I don’t really know, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) it really blew me away. This book tells the story of Steven I-don’t-have-a-last-name-and-if-I-do-Sebastian-doesn’t-remember-it, a young Chinese-American with rich and busy af parents, besides that, he’s just a normal geeky teen, he goes to school, he has friends, he loves comic books and he certainly does not expect to get superpowers by accident because some crazy asshole with superiority complex believes he’s supposed to inherit all of the Zodiac power, but life is weird and unpredictable that way so this is exactly what happens, and while the aforementioned asshole is trying to absorb all of this power through some kind of ritual I’m not gonna explain in here, Steven and another mysterious character that’ll become a friend get in the way of Maxwell’s (the asshole) plan and because of these guys involvement something goes wrong in the ritual and some of that energy goes to our main character and, surprise, surprise, he gets superpowers. After this what basically happens is that some of the Zodiac power flies away with the wind as if it was some kind of mist (because it is, for some reason) and it “touches” some other random teenagers who, because of the Zodiac powered mist, get other superpowers. Knowing this Jasmine (the mysterious character I mentioned before) and Steven, along with another guy called Carlos who is super smart go on a globally scaled trip to try and recruit the newly powered teens before Maxwell and his personal army (because that asshole has a personal army) “The Vanguard” get them, because they’re bad and we sure don’t want the bad guys to get them.

My Opinion

I know I already told it some lines ago, but I just wanna go more in depth with it. I want to make clear the fact that this is NOT, and I repeat, NOT a superhero story, and I say this because at first, I thought it would be…, but can you really blame me when this thing is written by Stan Lee? What I mean by this, and what I’m trying to say is that even when ALL of the people involved in this project (Stan Lee, Stuart Moore and Andie Tong) are famously known for being involved in the superhero world, and even when absolutely. Every. Single. One of our main characters have some kind of special ability (a nice way to say “superpowers”), you shouldn’t think of it that way, nor expect something like that, because more than focusing on a group of selfless, heroic and gorgeous people with abilities they can completely control and use for their benefit from the very beginning; this book tells the story of a group of misfits on their teen years who are completely and utterly scared of the uncontrollable and amazingly destructive powers they just “got cursed with”.

Wrapping Up

To finish this thing up and go to bed I've gotta say I strongly recommend this book, but only if you're looking for a good time, don't you dare thinking for one bloody second this is some kind of literary masterpiece, because it isn't.
